How can I tell the difference between basketball shoes vs other types. The boxes aren't marked.?

The staff has no clue. I'd prefer not to pay $70 so I get all my shoes at a local discounter (Gabriel Brothers). You can't beat their prices but there's no customer service to be found. Many thanks in advance. John
